City Description
Sunyani is a major city in the west-central interior of Ghana and the capital of the Bono Region. Surrounded by natural environments, like the forested Southern Ashanti Uplands, the municipal district is about 1289 km² big. In the recent decades the city has experienced enormous population growth. Whereas in 1970 only about 23 000 people lived in the city, in 2010 it had more than 70 000 inhabitants. The municipal district has even more than 200 000 inhabitants. This growth is also caused by the high-quality water supply. However extremely dry conditions make the access to clear water difficult.
Fieldwork in Sunyani
Pearl was from June until July on a fieldwork trip in Sunyani. She visited different places arround the city focusing our investigations key points. Nina also attend the trip for some days. More reports and experiences can be find in our blog.
